the kitchen makeover

So after just over three weeks, my kitchen cabinets are finished! I read some one's blog saying it had taken them three weeks, as they were also doing it during nap times and when their kids went to bed. I was really hoping mine wouldn't take that long but it did. I will say it was totally worth it!

For the white cabinets I used Benjamin Moore Advance in Dove White. It was my first time using BM and it was totally worth the $50/gallon. It gave a nice smooth finish. It only took one gallon of paint for all the white cabinets and I used a quart of the same type of BM paint for the island.

I was planing on using a liquid sander instead of having to actually sand the cabinets. I used it on one cabinet frame and the smell was so strong and horrible I knew there was no way I would be able to use it. It also took more time than sanding. Sanding was a little messier and definitely was an arm work out but it worked better for me. I thought my arm would fall off a couple of times. :)

This is the actual color of the island which is Peacock Blue. It was hard to get the accurate color in all the pictures.

So I forgot to take good before and after pictures but I found this one.

We also painted the walls... this was one thing I wasn't sure would be finished by this weekend but thanks to Matt's help, we finished it in one night.

I spray painted the knobs silver. I'm not sure how they will hold up but we shall see.

We went to a flea market today and found this typewriter for $5!

I've wanted to tackle this project for a LONG time and finally took the leap. It was definitely the biggest project I've done and I think I'm done with painting for a little while. I still have more changes that will be coming over the next couple of weeks and months with this kitchen. Right now, I'm just so glad I've made it this far. :)

just a peek

So today marks 3 weeks since I started my kitchen cabinets and it has been a long 3 weeks! My kitchen island is now complete, as of this past weekend. I am now seeing the light at the end of the tunnel with all the doors almost complete.

one year photo shoot

I did a photo shoot with Weston the week after he turned one. He was such a good little boy and loved the attention.

He likes to put his hand up to his ear and say what sounds like, "hey".

Here he seemed to be blowing a kiss...

These boys adore their daddy! He will get on the floor and wrestle with them every day. He's teaching them how to be little men. They love to play outside with daddy because he always lets them get dirty and mommy sometimes has to remind herself to let things go and that I want them to be boys and get dirty.

I have more pictures from Weston's shoot here.

This little boy always leaving the house with a toy or something to play with. This night it was an ambulance which then entertained him the whole time. Today he wanted to take a piggy bank with him. He was so happy he got to bring it and held it in his lap in the truck. Since it wasn't glass I wasn't worried about it getting broken.

Instagrams -- June

baby loves riding his brother's tricycle... Weston checking out a new little buddy... we went out one afternoon to watch the rain since there was no thunder and lightning (of course Riley ended up in the rain and had a blast)... beach day with my little family...
just chillin'... waiting on breakfast... all my handsome guys... the cutest little baby...

cousins having snack time together... had a fun day with two of my sisters... graduation for another niece... I love his curls...
Weston climbed in this cabinet all by himself... Riley wanted to help stuff the fox I made for Weston... the boys wanted to wear party hats when they spotted them in the decor I was working on for Weston's party...

I love seeing this sight almost every night -- it's their milk time where they sit and talk and drink milk before Riley goes to bed... Father's day for my boys' amazing daddy... Riley hanging out at one of his cousin's baseball games... night out on a triple date...
my boys have graduated car seats... I think Weston has the bluest eyes I've ever seen... little fishy... Weston wanted Riley to hold him even though it looks like he's being strangling...

So I have been working on the HUGE job of painting my kitchen cabinets! I started Wednesday a week ago and it's coming along. I knew it would take awhile and my kitchen would be a mess but my whole house has seriously suffered. I'm already so happy I took the leap though!
